The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport Review

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport Review

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport is based on the boxier Atlas three-row SUVs, but with a more rounded design, it loses the third of seats to focus on the comfort of five passengers. Besides the more stylish design and loss of the third row, there are not very many differences between the Atlas and its sporty sibling. The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport is a nicely packaged mid-size SUV, receiving high reviews and holding its own against class rivals such as the Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Design

As mentioned, the exterior of the Atlas Sport features an elongated roofline and abbreviated rear end. Its handsome styling sets it apart from other mid-size SUVs with a taller ride height and wider front end. The Atlas Sport is most definitely an SUV but it breaks boundaries with its unique design that is reminiscent of a coupe's profile. The interior design is just as bold with a digital gauge cluster and sleek dashboard layout that is intuitive for drivers to use. Inside, there is plenty of space for five passengers, and the spacious second row means that adults can fit back there comfortably. The cargo area boasts 1,141 litres of space, providing more than enough room to fit all the luggage necessary for an adventure.

Performance

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport is available in Kanata and across Canada with a 235-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 258 lb-ft of torque. It provides sporty driving dynamics and a refined ride quality that smooths out uneven surfaces and allows drivers to sit back and enjoy the view. 4MOTION all-wheel drive (AWD) provides increased control in all weather conditions and offers four driving modes for whatever drivers might encounter: Snow Mode, On-Road Mode, Off-Road Mode, and Off-Road Custom.

Infotainment

A touchscreen infotainment display equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is available on all models of the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport. Optional features include navigation, a reconfigurable gauge display, and SiriusXM satellite radio.

Safety

The Atlas Sport scores well in crash testing, thanks to Volkswagen's dedication to safety. All Atlas Sport models come standard with automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning and blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross-traffic alert. Additional available driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control and a semi-autonomous driving mode.

Models and Pricing

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport is available in four models in Kanata and across Canada: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, and Execline. The base-level Trendline model offers much standard technology and safety features at a price of $38,995. The best value comes from the Comfortline model, which at $43,495 adds in front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop and goes, keyless access with push-button start, dual-zone electronic air conditioning, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, and leatherette seating surfaces.

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Sport gets a good review based on its roomy cabin, spacious cargo area, and handsome exterior and interior styling. It offers practicality and style in a sea of two-row SUV sameness.
