The Myers Automotive Group dedicates many efforts and financial support to our community. We recently made a $1-million donation to the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit through The Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation. The hospital has graciously decided to name the new addition the Myers Automotive Acute Care of the Elderly Unit.
Dr Fraser Miller, the hospital's chief geriatrician said, "Creating the physical environment and care strategies to support these elderly patients is critically important if we are to meet their needs in the next few years."
Expected to open in 2016, the new 34-bed unit will offer acute treatment of elderly patients with complex and multiple medical problems with holistic, specialized care. Teams of health-care and social sciences professionals will focus not only on treating each patient's medical illnesses but also on maintaining their independence and preventing the loss of physical and mental abilities, the release stated.
"Focused care on the special needs of our frail elderly translates into shorter hospital stays and a more healthy return to the community," Miller said.
